(August 2019) Request for Asheville Police Department captain salary info.

Hello Asheville Police Department and/or the City of Asheville--

I'd like to make a public records request to ask for an explanation for the following:

1. Please explain why APD Captain Chris Reece-Young retired in 2016 but was brought out of retirement and rehired at APD at $50.00 per hour, which is $96,000 annually for full-time work, not including over-time, and almost $19,000 more annually than his salary at retirement.

2. Can you also please explain why Captain Young remains classified as "temporary / seasonal" more than a year after he was rehired in July 2018.

Thank you for your assistance!

[Editor’s Note: The requestor indicated in the “Start Date” / “End Date” section of the form on our site that the timeline of information to be included in the request should be January 01, 2018 - August 21, 2019.]

    Dear Sunshine Request:
There are no records responsive to your request. However, temporary/seasonal employees work no more than 1,000 hours in a calendar year, and Mr. Reece-Young is working in a temporary exempt position, which is not eligible for overtime.
Please contact me if you have other questions.
    All best,

    Terry White
