    Hello Sunshine Requests,

Each Deputy in our enforcement division is custom-fitted with body armor when they start at the Buncombe Sheriff’s Office.

Our body armor has “front and back ballistic panels” but we are not willing to share the exact models and that info is not public record. For practical purposes this is equivalent to what the questioner is asking about. The cost per person ranges between $670 and $765 depending on the configuration of body armor that the Deputy selects.

We use the manufacturer’s suggested replacement date. A refitting may be required when that 5-year replacement date is met. There may be a few weeks lag on that replacement order arriving, but deputies have unexpired body armor save that small caveat.

If the questioner is aware of a deputy who does not feel they are adequately provided the safety equipment or body armor they need, Sheriff Miller asks that
they come to him with that information.
