(August 2020) Request for Jackson County, NC public schools retirement expenses as of 08/31/20

Hello Jackson County, NC Public Schools,

I'd like to make a public records request for the following information:

1) Please provide a total of Federal, State, and Local dollars that were spent in Jackson County, NC Public Schools on the "retirement gatherings" of Sue Nations, Mike Murray, and other employees [unspecified] retiring from Central Office in the past fifteen years.

2) Also, if applicable, please provide totals for any requested funds for Kim Elliott, as well as the total of any funds that were spent on her retirement.

Please provide all responsive records as of 08/31/20 (or the date the query is performed).

Kristie,

Regarding the Sunshine Request asking how much was spent on retirement parties, I was able to find the following employees who had retired over the past fifteen years, in which their primary location was listed as the Central Office. There may be some names missing, because some records do not have the reason why their employment ended. Also, the location may be incorrect on some.

However, the only one I can find an expense for a retirement party was Michael Murray. $185.00 was spend on him. Cora said all retiring employees receive a clock, worth around $50.00 as a gift. By asking other employees who have been here for a while, the consensus is either everyone would bring a covered dish for a meal, or everyone would pitch in some money to buy refreshments, or everyone would go to a restaurant and pay for their own meal.
