Buncombe County Government vehicle tire purchases

Hello,

I would like to request an accounting by Buncombe County Government for tire purchases for County-owned vehicles since 2014. I would like for the accounting to show the tire type, brand name, and unit cost for each year, as well as from where the tires are sourced, be it a wholesaler or other distributor.

Thank you!

Hello Sunshine Request, in response to the request below, we do not possess a report that drills down into our purchase orders at the level of detail your requestor is asking for across all departments. I can provide the following information from our Fleet Maintenance Supervisor:

    1. Tire types range from high speed rated tires to general use highway tread and all terrain treads.

    2. The brand that we use most of the time is Goodyear. We also have Firestone tires. We base the brand of tire to the application of vehicle use. In addition, we always compare the cost of tires to get the best available cost versus need.

    3. The unit cost of tires start at about $115.00 per tire and go up from there depending on the size of tire for performance/speed rated tires. This price has been consistent for the past 3 years. The unit cost of general tires start at about $90.00, go up from there depending on the tread design, and load carrying capabilities.

    4. We generally buy from Wingfoot for the Goodyear tires and McCarthy’s for the Firestone. As a footnote, all of our tires and prices are listed on the North Carolina Sheriff’s Association.

    Thank you
