City Fitness Instructor Usage
Hello Brevard Administrators,
The Scope of Work in the City of Brevard's fitness instructor Trent Humphreys' contract says that Mr. Humphreys is to conduct individual and group fitness sessions, and coordinate offsite running sessions. We would like to request the following information about these sessions:
1. How many city employees attend these individual and/or group sessions per week on average? (This number should not include employees that use equipment on their own, only how many that regularly receive in person training from Mr. Humphreys.)
2. How many city employees attend the offsite running sessions per week on average?

1. How many city employees attend these individual and/or group sessions per week on average? (This number should not include employees that use equipment on their own, only how many that regularly receive in person training from Mr. Humphreys.) The number of city employees Mr. Humphreys trains typically fluctuates between 10% to 20% of all departments employed by the City of Brevard. This number is consistent and often supersedes the average involvement in other organization wellness/fitness programs. As an added component to expertise provided by Mr. Humphreys; also included is: fitness assessments, nutrition education, individualized program design, access to fitness related questions after hours, specialized strategies to obtain elimination of certain prescriptions and avoidance of operational surgeries and physical therapy. (Examples include blood pressure medication, cholesterol concerns, reversal of Type 2 Diabetes, rotator cuff, hip injuries, knee surgeries, etc.). Employee schedules are often a reason Mr. Humphreys spends time with program design, equipment orientation, and follow up assessments including Body Fat, BMI, and assessment of improved baseline numbers regarding improved health and fitness. Mr. Humphreys assisted in the addition of new fitness equipment for the fitness training room at the City Hall Municipal Complex. This facility is not only used for training sessions but also by employees in early morning or late-night hours depending on employee work shifts.
2. How many city employees attend the offsite running sessions per week on average? The offsite fitness session was a temporary exploration to educate city employees to the natural gym that Transylvania County is so blessed with Pisgah National Forest, Bracken Mountain Preserve, Gorges State Park and DuPont State Forest. Plyometrics were implemented, interval training, and calisthenics. This, along with the introduction of certain trail systems to give confidence to an employee on certain trails to not get lost. Once confidence was realized with each employee, they were ready to take on a trail at a convenient time that meets their schedule, with a better understanding of how to reach their personal fitness goals without stepping into a Fitness Facility. Mr. Humphreys does an excellent job of meeting individual needs. Some of those needs may reach individuals that are too intimidated to participate in group training. In addition, Mr. Humphreys uses many venues within the City of Brevard to conduct employee fitness training in Downtown Brevard, Brevard High School, city streets and sidewalks, Brevard College and Silvermont.
We hope this answers your questions. We are pleased to have secured such a knowledgeable and professional fitness trainer to continue making Brevard a happier and healthier community to live and work. The trickle-down effect to family and friends is quite noticeable and contagious.
