(December 2019) Request for Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office crime statistics

Hello Buncombe County, NC Sheriff’s Office,

I'd like to make a public records request for the following information related to crime in Buncombe County, NC:

Please provide, in a searchable spreadsheet format, crime statistics including all Part I and Part II Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) offenses, and any other reported offenses.

Specifically, I would like you to include the number of reported offenses for each category, as well as the number of those offenses that were solved, and the number of those offenses that were not solved or remain as open investigations.

For these purposes "Closed/Cleared - Leads Exhausted" should not be included as a case being solved.

Please provide all responsive numbers/statistics requested for the following dates: 12/03/17 to 12/03/18, and separately, 12/03/18 to 12/03/19.

    Hello Sunshine Requests,

     

    The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office officially switched from UCR to the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) in January of 2019.

     

    Details on this switch can be found here:
    www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/nibrs/nibrs-user-manual

     

    Because of this, our reports are set up to provide details in the NIBRS reporting format. Our reports are presented
    as they display in our reporting software, which does not allow for it to be exported to a spreadsheet format. Sorry for that.

     

    We do not have any existing reports for those date ranges requested, we do have reports that show YTD or by calendar year.

     

    Below you will see reports for 2017, 2018 and 2019.

     

    This information below should fulfill the request.
