Hi City of Asheville, NC Government,

I’d like to make a public records request for the following information:

If applicable - Please provide the total number of taxpayer dollars that the City of Asheville has spent on renting the Red Roof Inn located at 16 Crowell Road from August 03, 2020 - February 09, 2021.

I believe that this was done to rent the Inn for the homeless population during the Covid 19 pandemic.

    Following the Centers for Disease Control’s COVID-19 best practices guidelines, the City of Asheville contracts with Red Roof Inn for a block of 60 rooms at a deeply discounted nightly rate for non-congregate emergency shelter at the Red Roof Inn for people experiencing unsheltered homelessness who are at significantly higher risk of contracting COVID-19 because of age and/or underlying chronic health conditions. From the program’s inception on May 11, 2020 through February 9, 2021, the nightly room rate was $44.99 plus applicable taxes. Beginning on February 9, 2021, the nightly room rate increased to $46.99 plus applicable taxes. Not all of the 60 rooms are occupied each night and the City is billed only for rooms occupied on any given night.

     

    The City of Asheville is advancing the costs for these rooms in anticipation of 100% reimbursement from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which has authorized non-congregate emergency shelter as an eligible response cost through the end of the state’s pandemic emergency declaration.
