(July 2020) Request for Asheville, NC City Council / APD ride along info as of 07/24/20
Hello City of Asheville, NC Government (and APD),
I'd like to make a public records request for the following information:
1. Please provide a list of which current members, if any, of Asheville City Council, have conducted ride-a-longs with officers of the Asheville Police Department for a full shift.
2. If any Council members have done a ride-a-long, please let me know how many times they have done so. Please provide dates for each occurrence per Council member.
3. Please provide a list of how many and which Council members have completed the Asheville PD Citizen's Academy.

The answers to your questions:1. Please provide a list of which current members, if any, of Asheville City Council, have conducted ride-a-longs with officers of the Asheville Police Department for a full shift. We checked our records dating back to 2017. We have confirmation that Vice Chairman Wisler recently conducted a ride along (June 20, 2020). In addition, Councilwoman Mayfield conducted a ride along on June 9, 2017.
2. If any Council members have done a ride-a-long, please let me know how many times they have done so. Please provide dates for each occurrence per Council member. Please see the dates above.
3. Please provide a list of how many and which Council members have completed the Asheville PD Citizen’s Academy. We located records back to 2018 and do not have a record of any Council members attending the Citizen’s Police Academy.

Please confirm receipt to let us know the request will begin processing, and if possible, please provide a rough estimate of when the request may be completed. We will plan on following up again around that time. We will note on our site the statement you recently gave about how “If any of the records are located in city hall, rather than electronically, they will not be found until city employees return to city hall to work.”
