Rockingham County, NC Register of Deeds information
Hello, recently the Rockingham County Register of Deeds was being investigated for receiving too much back pay from county. What was the final disposition of that investigation? Also Register of Deeds Ben Curtis was accused of receiving vacation time from county but has never took vacation since 2016. What was the final disposition of this investigation? Also, it is known that Commissioner Kevin Berger is best friends with Register of Deeds Ben Curtis. Was Commissioner Berger part of the discussion concerning Ben Curtis’s final disposition? Did Commissioner Kevin Berger have a vote of the outcome of the investigation into Ben Curtis? Did Commissioner Berger recuse himself from conflict of interest in this matter?
Also, it is known that Register of Deeds Ben Curtis was employed with Eden Police department in same time frame that Commissioner Reece Pyrtle was police chief of Eden Police department. So did Commissioner Pyrtle have a part in final outcome of Ben Curtis’s investigation? Did Commissioner Pyrtle vote of final outcome of the investigation of Ben Curtis? Did Commissioner Pyrtle ever recuse himself of conflict of interest with Ben Curtis?

In response to the below public record request, please note the following:
Pursuant NCGS 132-1, public records and public information compiled by the agencies of NC government or its subdivisions are the property of the people. So, the County assists parties requesting public information and provides that information if a document/record exists and it is, in fact, a public record. In this case, there are no public records being requested but rather asking for responses to questions. NCGS 132-1(a) defines public record as “all documents, papers, letters, maps…” Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.
