[See Editor’s Note](April 2021) Submission for “What % of City of Asheville plastic recyclables were recycled in 2020”

Good afternoon,

Curbie has a 10 year contract to recycle 100% of the recycling-symbol stamped plastics collected in the City of Asheville., and citizens pay Curbie more than $1 million per year.

Per the EPA, less than 10% of all plastic is recycled. https://www.epa.gov/facts-and-figures-about-materials-waste-and-recycling/plastics-material-specific-data

Yet, for the same year as the most recent year of EPA data, 2018, Curbie, who is paid by the citizens of Asheville to reycle 100% of our plastics that are maked with a recycling symbol, stated that they were able to recycle 100% of those plastics.

That's amazing and should be celebrate and widely replicated, if it is true. https://mountainx.com/news/how-does-ashevilles-single-stream-recycling-facility-work/

Could you please provide the criteria that the CIty sets for its contractor -- all criteria and including the criteria related to the contractor confirming that 100% of the collected recyclables are recycled? (Of course nonrecyclables with no recycling symbol are by definition not recycled.)

Could you please provide Curbie's confirmation that 100% of Asheville's recyclable plastics that are picked up by Curbie are in fact recycled? (Yes, of course nonrecyclables with no recycling symbol are by definition not recycled.)

Because the contract with Curbie appears to have started in 2011, I input that as the start date, though your most recent records could be as recent as this month.

Thank you.
