(January 2020) Request for Buncombe County, NC 2017 and 2018 records
Hello Buncombe County, NC Sheriff's Department,
I'd like to make a public records request for the following information from 01/01/17 - 12/31/18.
** I'd like to ask that you please break this information (#1 - #3) down by month:
1. I'd like to know what was the total # of sexual assaults (any) reported by month to the Sheriffs’ department.
2. What was the number of those accepted for an investigation, and how were they closed (especially if the ADA refused to prosecute or “victim refused”)?
3. Of those where you did do an arrest, what were the number of dismissals by the court?
4. What was the number of male vs. female victims, the victims' races, and ages in the following ranges (less than 0-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, 61-70, over 70)? Please break this information down by year.

Here is what I have for this request:
1. I’d like to know what was the total # of sexual assaults (any) reported by month to the Sheriffs’ department.
We cannot provide stats for “sexual assaults” as that is not a specific charge. I have included offenses falling under the category of “Forcible Sex Offense” which includes “Sex Offense” – “Fondling” and “With Object”, “Rape”, “Statutory Rape”, “Indecent Liberties with a child.” I’ve also included and “Sexual Battery.”
I think this meets the criteria of the request.
2. What was the number of those accepted for an investigation, and how were they closed (especially if the ADA refused to prosecute or “victim refused”)?

4. What was the number of male vs. female victims, the victims’ races, and ages in the following ranges (less than 0-10, 11-20, 21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, 61-70, over 70)? Please break this information down by year.
We do not have any records response to this request or a way to quickly output that information from our database. This level of data would require a significant number of hours to compile by manually reviewing case files.
