(January 2020) Request for “Utilization rates of City-owned community centers” in Asheville, NC

Hello City of Asheville, NC Government,

I would like to make a public records request for the following information:

Please provide all data on the utilization rates of City-owned community centers, from January 1st, 2014 through December 31st, 2019. What I am looking for is the total availability of each center's facilities compared to how much they get booked.

I'd like to receive this data broken down by specific centers, and if possible, broken down by each room/facility in each center (e.g. basketball court, meeting room, etc.). If you are able to provide time-specific booking information, that would be excellent.

If data is available for a more extended timeframe than the one noted above, please provide it.

I appreciate your assistance. Thank you!

Good afternoon Sunshine Request,
Unfortunately this request is too broad for us to fill and therefore I have no responsive records for you. We would ask that the submitter resubmit a more specific question. I’m including information from our parks that may be useful in guiding future requests that are more specific:

– There are 12 centers used in various ways and for differing purposes.
– We deliberately include open time in a variety of spaces for the community to be able to drop-in and shoot basketball or play cards with whoever else is there.
– One is used as a base for our outdoor recreation program – they start there and end there, their equipment is there, but the actual program occurs somewhere else.
– They mention “total availability” – that sounds as if the requestor believes there are standard hours, when actually they change based on time of year, community requests and needs, and program usage.
