(January 2021) Request for Asheville City Schools Central Office staff degrees as of 01/05/21
Hi Asheville, NC City Schools,
I'd like to make a public records request for the following information:
Please provide the educational degrees attained by all ACS Central Office staff employees (at all levels above Administrative Assistant level). For example - This request would include all Assistant Superintendents, managers, directors, etc.
Please include where the degree was obtained, and in what subjects/areas the degree was awarded.
Please provide all responsive records as of 01/05/21 (or the date the query is performed).

Thank you so much for reaching out! First and foremost, I wanted to let you know that I am officially back from maternity leave and will resume answering media requests for Asheville City Schools. Therefore, if you’ll return to sending them my way as opposed to Dillon’s, I’m sure Dillon would greatly appreciate it.
Now, regarding your most recent request:
By law, certain personnel records are open to public inspection and the statute requires you to maintain a record of the following information for each employee. N.C. Gen. Stat. § 115C-320. These include:
(1) Name.
(2) Age.
(3) Date of original employment or appointment.
(4) The terms of any contract by which the employee is employed whether written or oral, past and current, to the extent that the board has the written contract or a record of the oral contract in its possession.
(5) Current position.
(6) Title.
(7) Current salary.
(8) Date and amount of each increase or decrease in salary with that local board of education.
(9) Date and type of each promotion, demotion, transfer, suspension, separation, or other change in position classification with that local board of education.
(10) Date and general description of the reasons for each promotion with that local board of education.
(11) Date and type of each dismissal, suspension, or demotion for disciplinary reasons taken by the local board of education. If the disciplinary action was a dismissal, a copy of the written notice of the final decision of the local board education setting forth the specific acts or omissions that are the basis of the dismissal.
(12) The office or station to which the employee is currently assigned.As you can see, the educational degrees an employee earns are not included on the list of items open to public inspection; therefore, in response to your request, that is not information we as a district will be able to provide.
