We received a similar request for information (https://www.sunshinerequest.com/records_request/see-editors-notejune-2021-request-for-city-of-asheville-nc-government-any-payments-related-to-reparations-speaker-series-participants-through-june-2021/) in June 2021, which is currently being processed by the City of Asheville. There is no further update to report since the last update from Liz Harper on June 10. However, we do plan to follow up with Liz again in mid-July to request a status update.
Please keep track of all status updates at the URL listed above. All updates from AVL Gov will be posted on our site, ideally within a few days of receipt.
In order to avoid duplication, we’d also ask that the sender please wait to submit any new request(s) to our site for similar or related items, until the original request from June has been Completed.
If it’s time-sensitive, and you do not wish to submit a new request via our site, however, then we’d encourage you to reach out to the City directly to submit a request for any records you’re seeking on your own behalf.
Sunshine Request will not fulfill the following types of requests:
☀️ Requests that are only informational questions [rather than a specific request for public records], and requests that are not addressed to government entities.
☀️ Requests that are incomplete, non-specific, or vague.
Before submitting a request, please take a moment to review our tips for How to make a request. While we do proofread requests we receive for general spelling and clarity, we may choose not to fulfill the request if it is incomplete, or it is unclear what specific information the requester hopes to receive. In this case, the sender may rewrite and resubmit the request.

☀️ Please be specific:
It is important that what you are requesting is specific and reasonable, and is an actionable records request. Please specify the exact records you’d like to receive, rather than any “possible” or “potential” info that could be searched. Remember that the larger your request, the more time it usually takes to fulfill. Specificity will often help reduce the amount of time needed to process the request.
It is important that a request has a clearly written and complete Subject and Message, and also specifies the Government Entity (or entities), City and/or County, and State to which the request should be sent. If applicable, please also include any responsive timelines for the info that should be requested.
