Good afternoon Roger, Wes, Jennifer, (Records Officer / Custodian(s) of these records),
Please reply promptly to the following public records request, which I’m making in accordance with NC Public Records Law. https://www.ncleg.net/enactedlegislation/statutes/html/bychapter/chapter_132.html
To be clear – creating or generating a report of public records that exist, is not the same as “creating a new record.” This basic data (name, hire date, position, salary) is simple to provide, very commonly produced, and widely considered a matter of public record as part of the public personnel file of employees. Many NC schools fulfill requests like this via email in 1 week, and in many cases 1 day.
Please provide the names and salaries of all Catawba Valley Community College employees / faculty / staff, employed any point from 01/01/25 through the present day [on the date the query is performed]. Please include the following:
1) Employee first / last name
2) Date of hire
3) Position / Title / Department
4) Salary [including hourly wage, hourly rate, or annual salary -- whichever payment structure is applicable to the employee]
If for some reason it is not possible to query the data in the manner requested (on a specific date), then please explain this. In that case, it will be sufficient if you provide the responsive info “as of the present day.”
Ideally, I’d like to receive the responsive records in an Excel or other machine-readable format. If any / all of this info is already publicly available online, please provide a link to where it can be accessed.
** I’m simply requesting an electronic copy of an electronic record, if one exists. I’m NOT asking for the opportunity to come in person to “inspect”, nor to obtain a printed copy of, this electronic record. I’m requesting explicitly that any responsive info be provided to me via the electronic medium / electronic format (in which the copy of this record already exists). If you are unable to fulfill any or all parts of this request, please specifically cite where a reason for denial is justified under NC Public Records Law. **

When opening the spreadsheet, you should see a pop-up that indicates “This workbook contains links to one or more external sources that could be unsafe”.I do not see any message like that. However, once I downloaded the spreadsheet and opened it (rather than opening it within this email), I was able to see the fields showing the Department + Division info.

The individual who helps me to produce reports is out this week, so it will be at least sometime next week before I can get this back to you with the Date of Hire field added.

We maintain a listing of current employees with the salary information requested. We do not maintain a listing of employees from various date ranges.

– Both the “Department” and “Division” columns say “ERROR”. There is no data contained in those columns or cells. Can you please fix this?
– The employee’s Date of Hire was requested, but has not been provided. Can you please fix this?– Can you please clarify whether it was “not possible” to query the records in the manner requested (January through present):
“… all Catawba Valley Community College employees / faculty / staff, employed any point from 01/01/25 through the present day [on the date the query is performed].”If that was the case, can you please explain the reasoning?
