Skateboarding Ordinance Enforcement

Hello,

I would like records of all Asheville Police Department enforcement actions of Sec. 19-6 (commonly known as the anti-skateboarding ordinance) in the Central Business District from 2/5/2017 to 2/5/2018. Please include date, times, and any accompanying charges from the same stop.

I would also like records of any calls for service regarding skateboarding in the Central Business District for the same time period.

Thank you for your time!

    Hello Sunshine,

This response comes from our APD Public Information Officer Christina Hallingse,

“During the time period of 2/5/2017 to 2/5/2018 there have been two citations for violating a city ordinance that reference skateboarding, one on 10/6/2017 and the other on 2/5/2018. However, our record management system does not distinguish what time of city ordinance violation occurred nor cite the section code, so there could have been additional citations for skateboarding issued during this time.

We also ran a query in our database for calls referencing skateboarding. During the requested time frame we had 23 calls for service referencing skateboarding. Many of those were cleared with “unable to locate” (meaning the suspect had left the area before the officers arrival) or they were issued a verbal warning.”
