Hi Randy,
Thank you for your reply.
It sounds like there may be some confusion here, likely caused by the large # of requests we’ve received related to the Sheriff’s department this past year. Apologies for any confusion – Please allow me to try to clarify:
Throughout 2018 we received and sent out numerous requests related to specific information about the Bunc. Co. Sheriff’s Office. We send each of the the requests individually, and perform periodic “Follow Ups” on each of those requests to receive confirmation that they were completed, denied, need additional clarification, etc.
It’s possible that not all of these requests have always included you in the CCs from the start, and I don’t think we started doing that until receiving Natalie Bailey’s auto-reply notifications that you should be contacted while they’re out of the office.
The particular request you’re replying to currently is a lengthy, multipart request we received in May 2018:
Subject: “Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office”

Message:
“1. SECTION 1. Sec. 5.4 of General Assembly of North Carolina Session 2007 House Bill 1197 Ratified Bill that created the Personnel Advisory Board for the Sheriff’s Department of Buncombe County clearly states that “The secretary shall keep the minutes of the proceedings of the Board and shall be the custodian of all papers and records pertaining to the business of the Board, and shall perform such other duties as the Board may direct. All of the records of the Board shall be open to public inspection, during normal business hours at their place of keeping, except where otherwise prohibited by law.”
A. How often does the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office Personnel Advisory Board meet and who attends the meetings other than the Board members? There is no section specifically under SECTION 2.(a) that exempts the Personnel Advisory Board minutes from public records.
B. Please provide the public records of the Board and/or please provide certified confirmation that Board minutes have been taken and recorded, as required by law.
2. The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office 2015 Annual Report states that the sheriff’s office follows the Family Justice Center model for dealing with domestic violence calls.
A. Please provide any and all statistics showing the model’s use and/or success and/or failure with the model.
B. Please provide the number of domestic violence calls responded to for Sheriff Van Duncan’s entire tenure by year and the outcomes of those calls.
3. The City of Asheville Police Department provides the public with records pertaining to employees who have been terminated.
A. Please provide the same for the Sheriff Van Duncan’s entire tenure, including any law enforcement certifications Sheriff Duncan has revoked. Thank you.”

For organization’s sake, we’d like to continue to follow up on those individually, in the email chain in which they were sent.
However, if you do decide to reply to any of these, outside of their respective email chains, we’d like to ask if you can please indicate the URL or the exact title of the request you’re referencing – this way we can make sure that there is not any confusion as to which request we’re updating.
Sorry for the lengthy message.
We appreciate your continued assistance with the requests.
Have a great afternoon!
